A flower native to Vietnam’s northern mountains is now blooming in the heart of Hanoi, creating an enchanting landscape in the capital city.

Nestled in the center of Hanoi, the buckwheat flower garden in Xuan Dinh Ward in Bac Tu Liem District is currently in full bloom, attracting hundreds of visitors eager to enjoy its beauty.

Buckwheat, also known as black barley (scientifically called Fagopyrum esculentum), is typically found in the highlands of northern Vietnam. This flowering plant belongs to the legume family (Fabaceae) and grows to a height of 30-80 cm. Its flowers are clustered in the leaf axils or at the tips of the stems, with petals forming a pyramid shape around the buckwheat seeds.

In early December, the buckwheat flowers bloom, transforming Hanoi’s winter landscape into a scene of beauty and romance.
The color of the flowers evolves with each stage: starting as pure white, they gradually turn pale pink, then deep pink, and finally a rich, dark red.
According to Duong Van Dat, the owner of the buckwheat flower garden in Xuan Dinh, he first beautified the area with lotus flowers. However, he was so captivated by the charm of buckwheat flowers that he decided to replace his lotus garden with these stunning blooms.
“Buckwheat flowers are easy to grow,” he says, “they are grown directly from seed and require minimal care,.” he stated.
“The timing of sowing is crucial to ensure that the flowers bloom at their most vibrant in winter, allowing them to display their brilliant and long-lasting beauty,” he added.
Then, Hanoians no longer have to travel to the northern mountainous area to experience the magic of these flowers, as they can now enjoy the spectacle in the heart of the capital.
The beauty of the buckwheat flowers has captured the hearts of many tourists…
From adults …
..to children.

Everyone  is eager to take souvenir photos among the blooming fields, cherishing the unique sight.
